😑 I'm not saying riots are bad or evil, I'm just saying this isn't what's currently happening. This is about accuracy, about not letting international narratives delegitimize the movement.
Show PostI'm saying this not to be a pearl-clutching prude, but because international framing could matter a great deal in how far the French government is going to feel comfortable in dialing up the repression. It's already looking pretty scary right now. Don't add to their sense of impunity.
Show PostPlease be careful about how you allow the press to frame what's going on internationally. It matters a great deal. Those were not "riots", they were protests. They were legal. Illegal degradations happened at their fringe. MANY of those were literally caused by the police.

weird to see english-language media go with "France being France lol" instead of focusing on the violent, unabashed repression & criminal behaviour by the police yeah a building burnt but, you know, kids are being mutilated so
