@ardenpod.bsky.socialI had a handful of trusted confidantes in high school around whom I could be myself, and when I wasn't around them, I bottled all of that up and pretended it didn't exist. But it did, and when I was an adult, it breached containment, and now it's EVERYwhere. I can't get it out of my curtains.
Show PostThis whole experiment is roughly in line with what happened when I did that "'90s yearbook photos" trend that was floating around a couple of years ago: Seeing myself as a teenager felt less like mourning a life I'd never had and confirmation of the one always lurking just beneath the surface.
Show PostYesterday, I saw a bunch of videos of women around my age sharing what their prom dresses had looked like. Then I spent literally ten minutes trying to remember what my prom dress looked like before realizing why I didn't remember. Transition works!!!
Show PostTo those who inquired, this isn't quite right, but it surely fits the vibe of what I would have wanted and the way bolder colors look good with my overall complexion. cc @eveettinger.com
Show PostI also think this is why I'm not strongly tempted to, like, go to a queer prom or something. I am sure an event like that would be a ton of fun, and I'd have a great time, but the strength of my subterranean life was such that I have just functionally swapped that one out with my "real" past.
