Sure, Katie Zacharia never passed the bar. But Pete Hegseth has never passed one either.

I am a lawyer. Licensed. She graduated from law school, and that's something. But she also said she was general counsel. If she was, that requires a law license. If she was GC without a license, that's a crime. If she wasn't a GC, she just lied. Either way, she's a terrible press secretary.

Most lawyers I know use the terms interchangeably. I believe there is a historical distinction—specifying that lawyer means someone who studied law, i.e., went to law school, and attorney specifically means someone who passed the bar and is licensed to practice law—that really isn’t used now
