There have been a lot of pivot points in my lifetime - times when things could have been so different if another choice had been made, or a specific person hadn’t died. I don’t think many have been as all-encompassing as that one though. 11/

The world before 9/11 was not great. But it was getting better. People were working on and succeeding in making some parts of it less harsh and unforgiving. There was so much work to do but people were actually doing that work with the basic assumption it would make a material difference. 10/
