because, and i feel slightly mad having to spell this out, electricity (and gas if you don’t have electric cooking and/or heating) is not a luxury in the modern world!
Show Postelectricity demand is fairly inelastic, the amount people need doesn’t vary much with price, you can using price incentives to shift *when* people use it, but not so much how much of it they use

The broad thrust of the Greens so-called "populist" economic message - that there is a class of people accumulating wealth while everyone else gets poorer for decades - is entirely correct. It is notable that the great and good cannot concede this.
