I'm fairly certain mochi (without the filling or flavor) and dango use the same few ingredients. I've made both and it's pretty much the same aside from ratios. Dango gets boiled, too
Show PostMochi is just a texture! In Japanese, they use a lot of onomatopoeias and mochi mochi means squishy. So in a way, yes. Dango is commonly made with mochiko which is the same type of flour used for mochi.
