Day 20 of #31daysofgraves: Fire. The inverted torch (the "snuffing out of life") was a common motif in 19th c US cemeteries. The example on the left is from Vine Lake Cemetery in Medfield, Massachusetts. I would argue the motif on the right, from Assistens Kirkegård in Copenhagen, is a similar take.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 20: fire James Braidwood established principles of fire-fighting that are still applied today. Regrettably, I didn't spot his grave when I visited Abney Park cemetery earlier this year. The trust has restored his grave. Info: share.google/auSYD59D3kRL...

#31DaysOfGraves Day 20 - Fire: Flames from urns and torches aren't uncommon, but this one looks like it's going to lead to a serious conflagration 🔥. I love the leaves on the urn. Erected by Maria Cousins to her husband Walter, d.1852, aged 50, at the United American Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH.
