My hypothesis: Water surface and snow are same temperature. Surface tension allows the snowflakes to establish a supporting matrix, largely air, for the accumulating snow. In short, I dunno, but that’s what I’m going with.

I am at a complete loss trying to figure out how 1/4" of slushy snow accumulated on an unfrozen water surface. The air temp never dropped below freezing (got down to 32.1F) and was completely isothermic. The water is about 6" deep. @alaskawx.bsky.social
