I’m having a hard time understanding all the celebration around the Alberta vote. Sure, they rejected separation, but that was never the point of the referendum. The government was seeking permission to institute racist policies… and they got it!

Alberta's referendum vote was never the point. The racist nine questions before it give the UCP their "mandate" to do whatever the fuck they can to hound and scapegoat immigrants and Ottawa anyway. And most people just...fucking didn't bother to keep voting on those? The UCP won this referendum.

They were counting on the ignorance of the Albertan public, to not understand division of powers, and to not have paid attention to the UCPs own undermining of our healthcare system (including refusing federal funding, remember?), and their push for immigration.
