Black-capped Petrel at Pendeen Watch 16th October 2026 at 3:18pm. Third for Britain but the first “live” record. Just one observer saw it and photographed it. This Pterodroma must surely be one of the most desirable to find. There’s hope… Pictures courtesy Nigel Rogers.

Two-headed ant. This worker Lasius niger has been attacked by a worker Lasius flavus in one of the ant wars that must take place daily. Presumably its compatriots dismembered the attacker but were unable to remove the head now locked in place by rictus of the jaw muscles.
