@chakatstock89.bsky.socialNo, you don't. You need battery storage. And that is a lot easier to build and a whole lot cleaner than nuclear. Plus, sea-level rise threatens all industry built on or near tidal waterways, so nuclear defo does not have a long-term future, even if GHG's are reduced.
Show PostJames Lovelock came out reluctantly in favour of nuclear as a baseload power source, being the least worst option. It's highly contentious of course, and arguably is now outdated in favour of batteries, but not quite yet. The pro-nuclear faction has a long and eminent history within the Greens.
Show PostThe motion was put forward by 'Greens for Nuclear', and is being celebrated by the nuclear industry. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
Show PostIt has only said it will now not decommission existing nuclear. Its opposition to new nuclear remains in place. So slow development and build argument is not applicable. I think that's a pragmatic position to take.
Show PostThe policy of no new nuclear remains. Just a recognition that exiting nuclear is preferable to new fossil fuel sources whilst we urgently roll out renewables and grid level storage. The adjusted policy is good, I think.
