Thank you, and at Ferndale, 17 months later another explosion killed another 53 men and boys. And after Aberfan George Thomas, MP, born in Port Talbot, was part of the govt plan to use the charity's money to clear the tip. He was later Commons speaker, then Viscount Tonypandy.

In 1867 my g.g.grandfather was killed in an explosion at Ferndale colliery in S Wales. One of 178 men and boys killed. A hundred years later 116 children and 28 adults were killed by an unsafe waste tip in Aberfan. Sobering but important TV. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

Greetings from Armenia, where the Armenians are gracious enough to let me try some basic phrases in their language – which is thrilling for an Indo-Europeanist like me. I'm getting a kick out of ordering two things with երկու (yerku) 'two', the unbelievable Armenian cognate of two/deux/dos/dva/etc.

St Mark's very strange lion/pig hybrid at The Round Church, Cambridge. Definitely a face only a mother could love! 🦁🐽🦁 #TilesOnTuesday

Somewhere in a Roman brickyard, around 1800 years ago, a fresh tile was drying peacefully ahead of firing - until a dog trotted straight across it. Centuries later, the tile has made it into a museum: not because of an emperor, but thanks to one dog who accidentally walked his way into history. 📷️me
