A real honour today to spend time with the Walthamstow Kinship Carers group. Their stories were deeply powerful and moving and there’s so much more we need to do to help - was also a privilege to hear from Dr Jahnine Davis who is the department for education national kinship care ambassador.

This Kinship Care Week, I want to say thank you to all the kinship carers in Jarrow and Gateshead East. I will continue to do all I can to champion kinship families, raise their voices with Government and push for consistent, meaningful support for every kinship family who needs it.

This week is #KinshipCareWeek. Kinship carers are family members or close friends who take on the care of a child when their parents are unable to do so. It was brilliant to meet with Lesley who is part of the Kinship Charity, and to hear more about the important support the charity provides.
