MPs Kody Blois and Mike Kelloway have responded to my open letter to them, attached. I've asked Jennifer Henderson and Joan Baxter to respond, and they will later today. In the meanwhile, here are my thoughts.
Show PostCourts have repeatedly ruled that particular reporters or news outlets cannot be arbitrarily banned from such events. This is the role of the free and independent press. We are not agents of the state, allowed on only when it serves politicians purposes.
Show PostHenderson and Baxter are experienced reporters, and they know well that they have the professional duty such that when reporting, they are to provide their names and identify themselves as reporters. I can tell you, this is reflexive for experienced reporters, and that's exactly what they did.
