I am a mere regular estate planner; I’m not a Medicaid expert. I work with one, who is a lovely person and knows this stuff inside and out. SHE is the sort of lawyer you need to talk to if Medicaid is in your/your parents’ future. Start early and you CAN retain a lot of family wealth!!

No actually I was just going to say that I love this system. I always ask my parents if they feel like they’re under 5 years from dying so we can begin signing a million pieces of paper so I don’t become homeless

the whole reason they do this bc they've been actively eliminating estate & wealth taxes for the better part of 80 years. both Trump administrations have involved Republicans hurriedly passing bills that cut services to Americans & dramatically cut taxes on the rich, George. W Bush had one also
