Well said by @lordrickettsp.bsky.social There should have been an extremely serious debate about this even earlier, from the moment the National Security Report came out in 2025 that called for a "whole-of-society“-approach to defense. But no national conversation followed.

It also fails to mention that during the war it was mass migration that saved Britain. Had Britain tried to fight the Nazis without the mass immigration of fighting aged men on boats from Canada and the USA and India and Australia then the war would have been lost.
