The power dynamic and the aims of each party must be read, not the 'tone'. If someone is being actively harmed, it's not reasonable to censure them for 'heated' language in addressing their oppressor. Their 'difficult' behaviour is not equivalent to someone who seeks to *control* via intimdiation.

There is a difference between someone arguing or raging against a system that is oppressing them (or other vulnerable people) vs targeting, threatening or bullying an individual, ie. using their vulnerablities against them. Politicians and journos who can't grasp this should find another profession.

Exactly, but I reject 'temperature' as a useful construct here. It's about morality. Basic decency. We do not want to stop anyone arguing passionately or even angrily for a cause. Or speaking truth to power. What *is* wrong is seeking to silence opponents and the tactic of dehumanisation. #auspol
