Pretty funny. I did not realize Delaware declared independence from Pennsylvania. Those must have been some pretty wild times back in the day, filled with discussions that must have seemed existential to the participants. It is a good reminder of how the big picture might be bigger than one can see.

It didn't happen with every surrendering enemy soldier (over 42000 prisoners were taken), but a historian at the Canadian War Museum documented it did often happen from many first hand accounts from Canadian soldiers in a paper for the Journal of Military History in 2006: web.viu.ca/davies/H355H...
