My son has a weekly evening get-together with friends, Mending Monday. He provides sewing machine, serger etc. Friends bring mending projects (and snacks and motivation) and they repair or redesign their clothes. So much creativity! Also many thrift items turned into funky new wearables.

I have been learning to sew because I want to create things. I enjoy envisioning something and creating it with my hands, the same reason why I fell in love with programming and became a software engineer. To create something is really cool in a world of overconsumption.
