It’s messed me up real bad, not just the ads, all of it that I watched so much of as a kid. I had no frame of reference to understand being targeted by professional adults for manipulation. I was so innocent and trusting.

It's so ingrained in people that it's somehow immoral or even illicit to do something against a companies wishes. I didn't sign a contract upon clicking on your website compelling me to watch ads. "Oh but that's how they make mon-" Literally no one made them do it that way.

Ehhh. The actual obviously correct take is that Google and Meta siphoned so much money out of the advertising economy that websites had to put more and more ads on their websites, incentivizing ad blockers.
