Stop voting for Jimmy Rollins. "Edgar Renteria with a glove that aged better" is not a hall of famer. Nor is "shortstop with a lower avg, slg, and obp than Jose Reyes" unless he's an Ozzie Smith level defender.

The hat tip is how Jim DeShaies got a vote for the Hall of Fame for crying out loud, but Andy Van Slyke in the very same year didn’t. Definitely not saying AVS is a HOFer, but am saying that AVS was far better than DeShaies. Things like this should allow for an automatic removal from voting.

I for one don’t support using something like a Hall of Fame vote to give a hat tip. If he doesn’t believe Felix, Pedroia and Abreu are Hall-worthy, I’m good with that, but using a spot for a hat-tip to a player who has no Hall of Fame credentials seems wrong to me. But they are the gatekeepers.
