The “Pax Bisonica” monologue is a theatre kid turned master actor being handed a plate of ham and playing it to the limit he was warned never to approach. The only monologue that comes close to the same effect is Pacino’s “absentee landlord” from Devil’s Advocate.

He leans ever so slightly more Curry because he gives away how much fun he’s having when he gets to monologue. But he’s all Caine when he needs to be, matching his performance to the limitations of what he’s working with when he knows it’s a back and forth scene.

I unironically love that movie because everything about it is dire other than the powerhouse actor who could play any role, had a flair for comedy, knew that this was bad, knew why and how it was bad, and acted the everliving shit out of it anyway because that might amuse his kids & he was dying.
