When I first lived in Pittsburgh my rent was 340 dollars for a shared spot and buddy I was doing everything. I was directing live action shorts, I was pencilling comics, I was buying comics, I was taking jobs running a boom mike, I was learning special effects makeup.

It’s not a problem for people who profit off that property, because when you realize you can charge whatever, and as soon as you raise, the landlords around you back you up because they want to raise too, so there’s no limit.

As soon as rents started going past a thousand dollars, there was a major decline in most forms of creative achievement. That’s everywhere. Because as soon as the take for minimum wage jobs, which is what you get when you’re starting, is barely enough to pay for rent, you’re not thinking anymore.
