Today's wander on the Iron Age hillfort of White Castle on the scarp slope of the Lammermuir Hills, commanding an impressive view across the Lothians to Edinburgh and Fife. Sites of several other hill forts are in view to the north, including rounded Traprain Law and conical North Berwick Law.

The hard to reach Nine Stones at Winterbourne, Dorset. You can see from William Stukely’s 1723 drawing that not much has changed - apart from the trunk of a huge tree which has been and gone - and the existence now of the busy A35 (a double row of hedges in the drawing) #StandingStoneSunday

The Roman Fortlet/Signal Station above the Valley of Stones, Dorset. Recently cleared of bracken. Situated on Black Down, it has line of site to Durnovaria and north-west to the known Roman fort on Waddon Hill. #RomanSiteSaturday #Archaeology #ValleyofStones
