But voters should understand that this latest effort by the administration to interfere in elections is no more valid than any of the previous efforts and will face the same fate: failure. Make a plan to vote, preferably early. Execute your plan. Your vote will be counted.
Show PostDOJ has even threatened election officials with prosecution if they count votes cast by these voters. The irony is that, because many are surely citizens, it would actually be a federal crime for election officials not to count their votes. (See 18 U.S.C. Sec. 242.)
Show PostDOJ hasn't offered any evidence that those voters are actually ineligible. (If they actually had evidence, they could be prosecuting those people.) And what little they have offered reveals shoddy methodology. More on that from @gowriramachandran.bsky.social here: bsky.app/profile/gowr...
Show PostThese charges must be understood within the broader election interference campaign being waged by this administration. They seem intended to lend credibility to a frivolous lawsuit DOJ has filed trying to force California not to count tens of thousands of ballots.
Show PostIn years past, DOJ would never announce charges like this right before an election, for fear that it would look like election interference or send a chilling message to voters. This year, that seems to be the point. www.latimes.com/california/s...
