Update : my happy neighbour has discovered the map feature on the seatback screen. She's taking a video out the window of Winnipeg's city lights, then zooming in on Winnipeg on the map. She's having a great time

ironically she is unfazed by my evidently using wifi (I just pushed a bunch of changes to a quarto manuscript inflight), perhaps because she has never experienced a plane that doesn't have wifi ?

she said she really likes the views and offered to swap seats with me so that I could take some pictures too; I thanked her and said she should enjoy it for the whole flight since it's her first time (I've done this flight so many times I know the numbers by heart, in both directions)

i am typing this somewhat surreptitiously; I don't know if she reads English (we were chatting en français) and wouldn't want her to be embarrassed by my tweeting it. however I think it is kickass to experience the miracle of flight as an actual miracle and not as the banal mess that many of us do
