Not read a tree-slice book for ages. But am in between devices as I plan my likely shift from Kindle to Kobo. And this by @dominicmhinde.bsky.social is a great read: a surprisingly poetic mix of travelogue, economic and social history, memoir and climate change meditation. About a third into it.

It of course remains a classic regardless, but Lost Weekend by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions would greatly benefit from removing the weak middle eight, which feels inserted out of obligation. For comparison, Iggy's The Passenger doesn't have one, and is unimprovable.

Anything with a train in it. Although I do feel for the producers as they can just use whatever the willing preserved railway has to hand

I just finished The Strangers by @naomialderman.bsky.social and it’s wonderful. A novel for this present moment. I want to recommend it to everyone I know. I borrowed a library copy but I think I’ll buy it to read it again. The kind of speculative fiction/scifi that shows us what it is to be human.
