Fuck. I love America. It is hard to do so. Often. This country has so much blood on its hands. This country has done so much harm in the world. It was founded by slave owners writing of freedom. Its people can be shallow, insipid, selfish. But the promise at the core of America still burns.

Congratulations to all the Democratic candidates who won tonight. It’s a reminder that when we come together around strong, forward-looking leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win. We’ve still got plenty of work to do, but the future looks a little bit brighter.

One word: Reagan. Many Eastern Europeans still view the US as the one who saved them from the USSR and Western Europe as the ones who sold them out. It is so engrained in their way of viewing the world that they ignore current realities.
