William Friedkin hired real actual career arsonist and mob affiliate Marv "the Torch" Katz and flew him to the Dominican Republic overnight to blow up a massive fallen tree the film crew's pyro guys couldn't get to explode. Marv got it done in a few hours and flew home the same day.

It's more like anti-trivia but since there's a persistent rumor that the fluid-breathing rat scene in The Abyss was vfx - or worse, that we just drowned some rats and lied about it - I usually mention that I was there, I watched the scene being filmed, and it's 100% real just like you see it.
