omg. This explains SO MUCH. I was working on one of my Nginx sites and couldn't figure out why I was suddenly seeing a HUGE bloated error log, tons of hits looking for files that weren't there. I ended up doing what you did - going real tight with the firewall - but wow, this explains a lot!

I think is a good move by the WordPress team, but it does have some knock-on effects that we have to think about as developers. Perhaps we release on Sunday morning, ready for work the next week? 🤪
