We all go through this. We just don’t really talk about it. My two across-the-street neighbors are older than me, and I would go over and just spill—I couldn’t think about anything else—and they just listened and never ever showed a single sign of impatience. They’d been through it.

I’m not sure what stage of all of this you’re in, but we went through it with both of our parents two years ago, and it is so hard. I think you’ll always cherish the time you’ve spent as a carer, but for me it was like living in that world and just moving through the one everyone else inhabits. ♥️
