So unfortunately, they're wildly misrepresenting what's in the book, either on purpose for their own head canon agenda or for other more innocent reasons. But this assertion from them isn't supported by what's in the book--and is, as usual with one small subgroup of fans, devastatingly literal.

Depends on what you mean by "connected." Bc she infected herself with the lamia spores, she can "hear" the Grey through the mycelial network, but she's not part mushroom the way she is part plant.
