I don't love the pressure to be the first to publish in sports reporting! It seems to lead to a lot of messiness like this, especially when it comes to contexts (like the medical one) where a reporter might be a little out of their depth and taking time to ask more clarifying questions would help

I wonder if this is a case of whisper down the lane, where the initial report was he DIDN'T sleep for 36 hours because he was in the hospital getting imaging until 4 a.m. and then had to be at the stadium a few hours later, and that has eventually become he COULDN'T sleep because it was dangerous
