The purpose of this narrative is at it's core to evade the responsibilities for the crimes of the second world war, and the emergence of Nazism in Germany. To basically say "Oh no, we Germans are inherently good! It's those evil capitalist Americans who made us do all the Nazi stuff".

I really do not like this narrative that the Nazi ideology was "inspired by American racial segregation". I know it has been popularised online by the communist youtuber Three Arrows. But I know where this narrative came from. It was originally the propaganda narrative of the East German regime.

If you think that's bad, the Soviets bulldozed sites where Jews were mass murdered. To prevent memorials from being built as part of a policy of minimising and denying Jewish victimhood during the Holocaust.
