For modern LEDs, for indoor signaling (or bare PCB) use, from 5v0 rails, you should be a lot closer to 10k-50k than 100-500 ohms, no kidding. Jellybean LEDs are *crazy* efficient now, 10-15mA is like a spotlight, and 1mA is still uncomfortable.

Took my laptop to the mill today so I could do some work while waiting for a contractor. Our friend the wagtail was not a fan of this and decided to do a poo on my screen.
