When I read the first part, I was going to comment that this issue with "lore" is all because of FNAF, and you pretty much killed it. I'm a big TADC fan, and a huge part of the fandom don't actually care about the story. They just want "lore" and want to know every tiny detail in the show.

I see what you're saying, and I'm a big fan of SCPs because I like the idea of just trying to figure out what this thing hiding in the darkness is. I didn't watch much of the Backrooms YT videos, but I'll say that the Backrooms movie is very much about the characters and not the thing.

Like I’m an outsider to Backrooms and TADC, but it sounds like someone watching Twin Peaks and going “stop focusing on analyzing the townspeople, explain how Bob works and who he is exactly!” Which is maybe the most misguided framework I can imagine.
Show PostSeeing the way people have been talking about TADC and Backrooms has convinced me that “lore” is the enemy in storytelling right now, people demand you focus on needless worldbuilding and not just tell a meaningful story with themes and symbols you can apply to life itself.
