Every single time I have crashed enough to get injured it was not only alone but on a car free path. The worst was on black ice on a multiuse trail. I still remember the sound of my helmet hitting the pavement. So yeah - no shame to those who don’t wear them but clearly I am benefitting from them.

The article makes reasonable points - police crash statistics over-represent vehicle-involved collisions a as a fraction of cycling crashes. I’ve hit the deck a few times and never been in a police report. Creating the idea that helmets are only needed because of cars is not good safety practice!
