Some mild sad news - enough time has passed without chicks that the caretaker determined either they’re unfertilized, or the peahen herself is infertile. Which means - for her health (the brooding instinct is STRONG) - I have to rob a nest today. HOWEVER…it also means I might get to pet a peahen?!

UPDATE: she was ***NOT*** interested in headpats, lmao But the deed is done! Brooding cycle should break fairly soon, and even if it meant destroying all the (nonexistent) goodwill we’d built up together over the last month and a half, I hope she’s able to move on to better pastures - and partners.

And off she goes!!! With the nesting phase over (albeit forcibly…), Juno’s back to roaming the neighborhood like nothing ever happened. I hope her next attempts are more successful. But how lucky I was to get to look after her during the last one. Of all the backyards, she had settled on ours. :)
