I think we're all a bit blindsided in the tech community around this. It's been settled policy to open source everything in the NHS for a long time. AI doesn't change the security risk.

Dump Chrome & use Waterfox. Private, open-source, no AI, no corpo, etc. Plus, it has an android version which can run most firefox-based extensions so you can go ad-free, use dark mode, play media in the background (or with the screen off) and more. It's on the play store & waterfox.org

Vivaldi: many useful productivity features, Chromium base, anti-AI stance. Not fully open source, but still my personal favorite. Zen Browser: not as many features but still plenty, Firefox base, keeps Mozilla's AI crap out. Fully open source. Both great options.
