The Society of Authors has withdrawn from the ill-conceived concession to the dark side that was the "ethical GenAI" charter because of the mass and vocal outrage of authors. Publishers need to be made afraid of this level of anger too.

When I was 25, in grad school, my mom told me I didn't call her enough. I said school keeps me busy, sorry, but you can always call me. She said she shouldn't have to, and from then on, wouldn't unless it was an emergency. I'm nearly 43 now and she kept her promise. She wonders why we aren't close.

I’m actually in favor of returning to fisticuffs. Especially if this is who we are fighting. The thing is, fake outrage “debate” culture is easily more violent that a little pugilism. Plus, I like my odds.
