Many public sector workers put in unpaid hours that go under the radar because it’s taken for granted that whatever needs to be done will be done, whether or not someone has to go above and beyond to plug the gap.

“eight hours of payback”? The letter writer must have a short memory. Public sector workers support their fellow citizens EVERY day,but most notably in circumstances such as eg the pandemic when people were unable to work & needed support payments urgently. Or Brexit negotiation preparations etc etc
