To this I would say: well, all 1st person narrators ARE PEOPLE and therefore don’t fully understand everything they see, because none of us do....but trust since we made a special name for something called “unreliable narrators" we must have meant something different than being human.

someone wrote a huge long thread about unreliable narrators on threads and it is wrong, wrong, wrong, and my secondhand embarrassment hasn't been this bad since like...any garden variety episode of Family Ties back in 1982.
