Ata Kak - Obaa Sima [Ghana, Highlife/Hiplife/Disco/Rap] (1994) -- Very unique fusion of Western and African styles on this self-recorded tape. Apparently took 20 years to find a translation for some of his lyrics https://redd.it/334g0x https://youtu.be/w18iKXP-ESw

This is lovely! Once saw it projected onto the side of York Minster. Five stars
Show PostWatching Singin’ in the Rain, and yes it did a number on silent movies, and yes it’s mildly infuriating that it’s celebrated so widely while other special musicals of the era are overlooked (until the mid-‘70s, the film was seen as a pale shadow of An American in Paris), but good lord it’s wonderful
Show PostEspecially Jean Hagen. Everything she does in this movie is funny. Debbie Reynolds’ beautiful version of ‘Would You’ should never have been swapped out, though. 😡 open.spotify.com/track/4LROTp...
Show PostO’Connor and Kelly are so good together: the mutual respect between two dancers, Cosmo’s loving pisstaking, their characters’ commitment to just being very silly
