I remember telling my MIGS surgeon before my excision lap that a diagnosis would be a relief Which is why when I woke up from surgery she was standing over me and saying, in a cheerful singsong voice, “Good morning! You have endometriosis!”

Exactly! And the research is only becoming more clear: enabling abuse is abuse. It has the same traumatic impact as abuse itself.

And in case it isn’t obvious enough: the Acton ad is DARVO and DARVO is abuse. It’s an acronym that stands for Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim Offender. When abusers resort to DARVO, it causes trauma in victims. It is not just a defense of violence. It is a second act of violence.

I have spoken to so many survivors who have avoided opportunities—including running for office—because they worry that their abusers would resurface and terrorize them all over again if they were in the public eye. It’s craven for a political campaign to weaponize that.
