John Steinbeck had previously been awarded the 1940 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for “The Grapes of Wrath,” and the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature. Steinbeck was the author of thirty novels, memoirs, screenplays, and collections of stories, articles, and letters, some published posthumously. (3/4)
