On this day, 21 October 1449, George, the future duke of Clarence & elder brother of Richard III, was born in Dublin Castle. His father, Richard, duke of York, had arrived in Ireland earlier that year. George was baptised at St Saviour’s, the Dominican priory north of the River Liffey.
