Fun video about the "TV pickup" in the UK power grid. When a popular TV show ends, a million or two people walk into the kitchen and put a ~3 kW kettle on for tea. That ~3 GW load spike comes online within a minute or two, and ~3 GW of generation must come online just as quickly to match.
