But I still don’t know how helpful these are for learning and understanding. Students apparently use an AI tool to “listen” to my lectures in class and generate a 1-2 paragraph written summary. Which if my 1.5 hr lecture could be a 3 minute summary don’t you think I would just do that?

I have identified two disallowed uses of AI in submissions for grading. In both cases, students were challenged to read, summarize, and analyze a figure from a primary research articles, and in both cases the chatgpt hallucination was so bad it summarized unrelated experiments or invented them.

I'm an academic, not a student, but I frequently get ads on You Tube and YouTube Music for Grammarly and chat GPT, and they go hard at telling you how much you need them to get better grades or do your course work. So maybe it's also a case of intensive, targeted advertising??
