I used to have an Oxford-style debate assignment in one of my grad classes. As I became increasingly uncomfortable with how “debate” was being used and abused in modern discourse, I replaced it with another assignment. Debate doesn’t usually improve understanding; it rewards semantic chicanery.

My top surgeon was apparently supposed to read a script about regret rates but just said "we are only truly free if we are free to make choices we regret", which goes hard af and is also what I say whenever I order a sushi boat for 2 to eat in one sitting.
