Personally I think there are "legitimate questions" about COVID. Like why Michael Gove and Matt Hancock got away with giving away contracts to their mates. And why the fuck Michelle Mone and Doug Barrowman haven't been prosecuted.

It does sound like you treat your PhD students as unpaid RAs. PhD students should have the time and space to develop their own ideas, make their own mistakes, etc. This takes a lot longer than 18 months. Thanks for giving the funders some ammunition to further cut funding for PG study! sigh.

My stats (supervision/examination) are ~the same as the author's, but my views could not be more different. Conflating all science disciplines like this is nonsensical but also, the whole piece is just misguided self-promotion masquerading as an authoritative opinion. (why yes, I am in a bad mood)

What is stopping UKRI having firm policies around their choice of call deadlines? This is a quality as well as an EDI issue. This is about putting massive demands on the system that is under extreme strain and pressure. This is about the Matthew effect (who is able to respond quickly) etc... etc...
